Chapter 6 deals with the events of the American Revolution. The textbook is a great resource but some other interesting infromation may be found at these sites.
In class we have watched the Disney movie "Johnny Tremain". The movie is based on the book by Esther Forbes. In 1942 she published her first nonfiction work, a biography of Paul Revere entitled Paul Revere and the World He Lived In, for which she won the Pulitzer Prize.
While researching Paul Revere’s life, Forbes became increasingly interested in the colonial period, particularly in the Bostonians of the Revolutionary era. She decided to write a children’s book telling the story of a young Boston apprentice who witnesses America’s birth firsthand. This is how the book "Johnny Tremain" came to be. Many parents and grandparents read this book when in junior high. I would recommend that you get this book and read it with your children and then rent the movie and view it as a family as it presents historical content in a way that will not soon be forgetten.
